Description
Bubble Net Feeding is a unique feeding technique employed by Humpback Whales, in which a group of whales swim in a shrinking circle blowing bubbles below a school of fish. This shrinking column of bubbles surrounds the school of fish forcing them upward. The whales spontaneously swim upward through the bubble net, mouths wide open, catching thousands of fish in one gulp. The group of whales working together is working at the direction of the dominate female. The whales sing as they round up the fish coming to a crescendo as they erupt through the surface.
Seeing this is rare and on this day, it happened multiple times in Juneau Alaska. Typically if it is going to occur, there are only about 2 weeks out of the year when it might occur. In this case there were about 14 whales involved in making this happen. Being able to witness this was made possible by going out with Jayleen on her 26' foot. She has started her own business of taking people on tour and you will love going out with her. www.jayleensalaska.com
